I heavily leaned into the period nature of this piece. It is set in the London Underground during the Blitz and so I wanted to pull directly from the historical garments of that time.
I started with the Queen of Hearts/ Nurse Cross. I pulled from both a Red Cross Nurses Uniform as well as classic playing card designs for her. The idea is that the over skirt that is the Queen of Hearts could fasten on and come off very quickly as she has multiple quick changes throughout the show
For the Mad Hatter/ Harold Pudding I pulled a lot of inspiration from WWII British soldier uniforms. He has the classic jodhpurs and trench coat but the coat is a very vibrant neon pink, a complete contrast to the neutral beige or brown it would have been had it been an army trench coat. His hat has a steel cap base with a wire frame to create the silhouette of the top hat but seemingly made out of things Harold would have found in the refugee camp
